How Drink Atlas classifies drinks

There are countless names, but the main taste lines are simple. We group beer, makgeolli, traditional spirits, whiskey, wine, and coffee in three steps: family → group → style.

  1. Family The largest lineage
  2. Group A cluster of close characters
  3. Style Where a product sits

Ex. Pilsner Urquell Lager Pale lager Czech pilsner

Drinks on the same branch share ingredients and process. If one pour clicked, another on that branch often will too.

What do taste profiles mean?

Bars and radar charts on the detail screen map sensory axes to a 0–100 scale.

  • Malt
  • Hops
  • Acidity
  • Body
  • Sweetness
  • Aroma
  • Finish

These are not lab measurements but a relative place within the same category. “IPA hops 80” and “makgeolli acidity 80” use different scales — compare within one drink type.
